BETER ETEN

UX/UI Design for pilot release

Beter Eten was a Buyproxy initiative (pilot) in collaboration with a Jumbo Supermarket branch in Rotterdam to provide healthy food for people who cannot (fully) afford it. It allowed them to receive a weekly contribution on a debit card for healthy food, and to use it without stigma. I was responsible for the design of the app, as well as the design of the administrator portal. However, in this case I will only focus on the app.

The starting point of this project was a list of features accompanied with the context as described above. The gist of the app is shown in these four screens, which shows the simplicity of it. Basically, the people who used the Beter Eten app needed to see their total balance, how much their contribution is, and they had to be able to upload their receipts in order to get back the money they spent on healthy products.

The Concept

As mentioned above, one of the main features was uploading receipts in order to receive the money that was spent on healthy products. Naturally, the users needed to know on which products they could spent their contribution on as well. In these screens you can see how we tackled creating this feature in the most simple way as possible, as keeping it simple was key for this app.

Feature: Uploading receipts

Apart from keeping the features as simple as possible, the overall language and tone of voice needed to be fitting as well. In the example of retrieving their pincode, it shows how every step is explained and also how it manages expectations for the coming screens. This was of importance because the app needed to be accessible for people who are less digital savvy as well. This was based on research that had been done earlier for Buyproxy projects.
